December 12-16 12/11/2011
HARPER MOUNTAIN It seems that I have caused some confusion around our Ski/Snowboard lessons. I apologize for any misunderstandings. The organization around this is a large under taking. It was my intention to give families lots of notice to plan for the expense. For example, families (or Santa) may have wanted to make gifts of clothing or equipment. With regard to the latter, it is never too late to change your status of being a renter of equipment to that of having your own equipment. With regard to the dates, I did not have a choice, those dates were assigned to me. Many schools have long standing dates, year after year. Hopefully, that will become true for Parkcrest as well and will gets dates closer together in the future. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns regarding this or any other matter. I have made a mistake about when school resumes. It reopens on Tuesday, January 3, 2012. READING This week we will finish up with the Reading Power strategy of visualizing. MATH We are continuing to work our way through numeration. Daily practice of times tables is recommended. This week we are looking at multiplication in terms of repeated addition. December 6-9 12/05/2011
*Christmas performance with our Kindergarten buddies for families: Friday, December 9th, 8:45-9:00 in the gym* *SKIING/SNOWBOARDING* at Harper Mountain- Your child will bring home the package with information. Please read each page carefully. You need to classify your child as a 'type' for safety purposes. Your child's height (cm), weight (kg), and shoe size need to be included for rental equipment. Please sign and return the last two pages by Friday December 9th. Payment is not due until the first week of January. Tuesday, December 6th- We will be making Bannock with our first nations support worker, Mrs. Boyer. Students have also been learning and practicing the ancient skill of weaving. In Math this week we will begin by learning about key words such as 'difference' and 'total'. We will quickly move into word problems. We will begin multiplication soon. There are many great websites to practice times tables. Students should be able to memorize the facts with 10 minutes practice per day. They should begin with the two times tables and know them forward and backward. For example: 2x1=2, 1x2=2, 2x2=4, 2x3=6, 3x2=6, etc. |
